Magnatune

December 29th, 2005

Dave Winer points to this mini-review of Magnatune.

Aside from the in my somewhat humble opinion sucky name, it is indeed a nice service. Bonus points for:

  1. no DRM
  2. multiple formats and bitrates of your choice, including lossless FLAC (though no ALAC, MPEG-4 LAC or aacPlus)
  3. albums starting at $5 or however much above that you want to pay
  4. allowing free re-downloads
  5. PayPal support

Sadly:

  1. somewhat understandably, no single song downloads
  2. the website is slow
  3. the website is cluttered and confusing
  4. no iTunes plug-in

Feel free to correct me if I got any details wrong.

Leave the country the same, but correct the continent, and end the sentence with a period instead.
